Heating System Installation Plymouth
Full heating system installation across Plymouth. Heat pumps, radiators, underfloor heating, cylinders and controls, installed and maintained by one firm that also does the electrics.
Heating system installation
A heating system is more than the box on the wall. It is the heat source, the pipework, the emitters, the hot water storage and the controls, and it only works properly when all five are sized to each other and to the building.
We install complete systems: heat pumps, gas boilers where a boiler is the right answer, radiators sized to the room, wet and dry underfloor heating, unvented cylinders and modern controls. Room by room heat loss calculation first, then the design, then the installation.
Areas we cover. Plymouth and out to Plympton, Ivybridge and Okehampton. Older housing stock often needs the system rebalancing rather than replacing, and we will say so.
The emitters decide whether it works
The part of a heating system that decides whether a house feels warm is not the heat source. It is the radiators and underfloor loops, and this is where most disappointing systems are lost.
A boiler pushes water round hot. A heat pump runs cooler, so a radiator that was adequate on a boiler will give out noticeably less heat on a heat pump. The fix is not a bigger heat pump, it is correctly sized emitters. We calculate the heat loss for each room, work out what each one needs to give out at the flow temperature the system will actually run at, and tell you which radiators need changing before you commit.
Occasionally that means every radiator. More often it means three or four, usually in the coldest rooms. Either way you see it in the quote rather than discovering it in January. See underfloor heating.
Heating system repair
Heating breakdowns diagnosed and repaired fast. No heat, no hot water, cold radiators, noisy pipes, pressure dropping, thermostat not calling. Gas Safe registered with over twenty years experience, and F-Gas certified for the heat pump side.
We also carry out planned heating maintenance for homes, landlords and commercial premises, with heat pumps, boilers, cylinders and controls all looked after on one visit by one firm.
System water, cleaning and balancing
Two jobs get skipped on a heating installation more than any others, and both cost the customer later.
Cleaning. An existing system carries sludge, a mix of corrosion debris and scale that has been circulating for years. Put a new heat source on without cleaning it out and that debris goes straight through the new heat exchanger. We flush the system properly, add inhibitor, and fit a magnetic filter where it is warranted.
Balancing. Water takes the easiest route, so without balancing the radiators nearest the pump run hot and the far ones never warm up. This is the real reason for the one room in the house that is always cold. Balancing sets the flow through each radiator so the whole system reaches temperature together. It takes time on the last day of an installation and it is the difference between a system that works and one that gets complained about.
We do both as standard rather than as an extra.

Thermostat installation
Smart and standard thermostats supplied and fitted, wired by our own electrician for full control. Zoning a house properly is one of the cheapest ways to cut a heating bill, and it matters even more on a heat pump, which likes steady running rather than blasts of heat.
Thermostat repair
Faulty thermostat traced and repaired or replaced, keeping your heating running as it should. Often the reason a system seems broken is the control rather than the heat source.
Underfloor Heating
Wet and dry underfloor heating, standalone or paired with a heat pump. Underfloor runs at a low flow temperature, which is exactly where a heat pump is most efficient, and it heats a room evenly rather than from one hot panel on the wall.
Unvented Hot Water Cylinder
Unvented cylinders supplied, installed and serviced, for mains pressure hot water throughout the property. WaterSafe approved. Usually fitted as part of a boiler replacement or a heat pump installation, and it frees up the loft and airing cupboard.
